It was an exciting day in the Word Cup, but no match has ever been as breathtaking as Match #3. Several games in this battle between male and female students were won by the smallest of margins. The match required two extra games to separate the evenly balanced teams. When the dust finally settled, Rashid Anwar, Rashed Abdullah, Mohamed Khaled and Abdulla Salem emerged as the winners for section 902. Section 4 finished in second place and section 8 eliminated section 902 by milliseconds in the closest two team tiebreaker ever witnessed.
Match #3 could not have been closer. |
In match #1 Sections 1, 11 and 16 could breath easy with their advancement guaranteed due to section 15s no show. There was still a lot to play for in terms of seeding for Monday's semifinal and Section 1's Sara, Fatima, Aisha and Noor took care of business by racking up 12 points in their victory over section 11 (9 points) and section 16 (6 points).
Match #2 saw a dominating performance by Hamda, Noof, Rawdha and Zainab of section 7. Their second victory in a row and huge score of 19 points makes them the clear favorites to lift the cup next Thursday. Section 3 did their best to keep pace and managed an impressive 10 points, while section 2 did just enough to get past section 5 and advance to the semifinal.
